Collene Roche
Governance Specialist & Former PrincipalONZM-honoured former principal, governance specialist and trusted mentor to school leaders nationwide.
Collene has had substantial experience in the education sector. She was Principal of Carmel College, Auckland, for twelve years. During this time the school received glowing reports and became known nationally for its outstanding academic results. She also worked as Interim Principal at McAuley High School in Otahuhu.
She has presented at workshops and at a number of conventions and conferences. Collene works as a mentor to Principals, as a reviewer of Principals Performance Agreements of both Primary and Secondary Principals and senior management team members. She has also worked broadly with the Ministry of Education in school improvement. She has worked closely with Boards as a Governance Facilitator. She also has experience as Chair of a Board. Her experience with the Ministry of Education in the school support area has provided a variety of schools and situations which have enhanced the breadth of her experience.

Janne Pender
HR & Organizational Development ExpertSkilled in HR management, structural analysis, and strategic planning for schools and boards.
The non-teacher of the group, Janne's experience is in human resource management, training and organisation development. Because of her background she has been able to use her skills to support School Boards in areas such as recruitment and selection of principals, performance planning and review, managing staff and developing teams.
Janne has worked in schools both primary and secondary, not only in the human resource area but also carrying out needs analysis in relation to support staff. Schools are ever changing places and often they find that roles are no longer right sized or even required. Using a well-developed model Janne will carry out an analysis of the structure, reporting lines and roles and make recommendations.
Experienced as a member of a Board of Trustees and in more recent years as a chair of three school proprietor boards she can provide support to chairs and members of School Boards. Along with colleagues she played a significant part in the development of an in-depth programme to identify and develop future principals.

Alan Burton
Education Strategist & School Establishment ExpertFormer Ministry leader with deep expertise in school governance, restructuring, and community engagement.
Alan has had wide-ranging experience in a number of areas of education. After working extensively in secondary schools as a successful teacher and advisor, he was appointed Principal of Avondale College. Subsequently he held senior positions in the Department of Education and later the Ministry of Education in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
More recently he has worked closely with boards and management of primary, intermediate and secondary schools in the state, integrated and independent school sectors. His successful experience also includes the establishment of five new State schools and one Catholic school, developing area strategies for schooling for the Ministry of Education, organisational review of existing schools, appraisal of school leadership and boards, teacher education, and professional development.
Alan has served as acting principal in a number of Auckland and Wellington schools, and as a member of three school boards. He has an excellent understanding of schools and their diverse communities, and of their particular challenges and opportunities.
